Metaglymma General notes
Metaglymma is endemic to the dry southern half of the South Island and comprises at present three species and each has synonyms which may yet need to be reinstated as separate species. Like its relatives Mecodema species, adults by burrowing through the upper soil layers and litter prey on other insects etc. Their larvae are very rare and perhaps occupy a deeper habitat around the deep roots of trees etc.
